The study attempts to investigate the grammatical and pho-netic factors contributing towards first language interference for the speaking and listening skills of the undergraduate students.
The study ascertains the influence of grammar and phonetics of first language on the bilingual speaker to the extent that creates interference of first language for the students. The female students of Govt. Gulberg College, Lahore is considered to be the target audi-ence of the study.
The approach tou/ards this study was mixed method, considering an amalgamation of quantitative and qualitative methodology. The sample size was kept fifty for the verbal survey.
This study will prove advantageous for revealing the un-knownnewest aspects of grammar and phonetics that are re-sponsible for first language interference in the students in speaking and listening skills. The beneficial solutions to cope up with this interference are also suggested in the study.
