PREFACE
Prepared primarily for the use of the students of Faculties of Law, this book was written as a content–based syllabus in order to improve their ability to comprehend legal texts, and integrate skills of acquiring necessary terminology in Legal English. The book is based on the particular needs of the students.
This revised and updated third edition consists of three parts as the fırst two editions do. in the fırst part, there are 15 units including content–based reading texts, defınitions of legal terms, and a grammar section where necessary. Different from the fırst edition it has three tests on reading comprehension and vocabulary after each fıve units as was like in the 2nd edition. The second part covers 17 content–based reading passages to develop reading comprehension in their own professional fıeld and the usage of some important terminology and structures. These texts have been adapted from the books of distinguished law practitioners, from internet web pages, and from lesson notes of the students of law faculties of certain universities including the East Mediterranean in Cyprus, and the Robert Schumann in France, and the university of North Carolina, in the U.S.A. Reading texts on special laws have been updated parallel with the amendments to them. The third part includes 6 case summaries from different courts. And the Appendix section has "Highlights of New Turkish Civil Law", "Highlights of New Turkish Criminal Law", and "Universal Declaration of Human Rights", and Amendments to the Law Regarding Prevention of Bribery of Foreign Public Offıcials in International Business Transactions; Turkish Constitutional Referendum, 2010 have been added in the Appendix.
This new edition, with a careful evaluation of its exploitation as a Legal English Teaching course book, at not only the Faculty of Law of our University but also at some other universities, course centres, and at the classes of post graduate studies, has been revised and updated to meet increasing needs. Hence, some units have been newly created, some removed, some amended, and some have been d in the order. I would appreciate ali contributions of my colleagues regarding this revised edition's expansion, and improvement with their öpen reviews.
